My financial situation was bleak before joining WUP Kenya. It had been three years since I left college, and I had no capital to start any venture. As they say, “Ndaharite ta mbia ya kanitha” (I was as broke as a church mouse). The lack of financial resources left me feeling hopeless and uncertain about my future.
My turning point came when a friend, who was already a member of WUP Kenya, referred me to the organization. He assured me, “Benson, I can freely advise you to join WUP Kenya and you will never regret it.” His positive experience and encouragement motivated me to take the leap and join WUP Kenya.
Access to WUP Kenya’s services has significantly impacted my business and personal finances. The loans have always been issued on time, with only minor delays of 2-3 days, which is comparable to other loan-giving entities. The communication from WUP Kenya has been excellent, and the Business Development Officers (BDOs) they send us are generally very supportive. Although we had an issue with one BDO who was rude, our complaints led to a change, and since then, the service has been impeccable. I must give special credit to Philip, who ensured our chama (group) remained stable. As the chairman of our group, I appeal to WUP Kenya not to reassign our current BDO, Tabitha, who has been exceptionally good to us.
One specific example of a significant improvement in my life since joining WUP Kenya is the enhancement of my agrovet shop. The loans have enabled me to improve my stock, and I even bought “Monica”, my favorite and most productive cow, for KES 85,000 using loan money from WUP Kenya. Additionally, I constructed a perimeter wall for a plot I had previously bought. Pedestrians had turned the plot into a path, so I applied for a loan of KES 100,000, which allowed me to build the wall and secure my property.
While using WUP Kenya’s services, the primary challenge I faced was the occasional delay in loan processing, which took between 2-3 days. To overcome this, I suggest that the institution implement a more organized, real-time loan processing system.
My involvement with WUP Kenya has positively affected both my family and community. The construction of the wall has been a source of pride for my wife and me. In the community, members of our group have shared how the loans have supported them. Some have used the money to procure water tanks and milking goats, while others have constructed houses.
Being a member of WUP Kenya has taught me the benefits of their services compared to traditional banks. WUP Kenya offers lower loan interest rates and favourable dividends, making it a more attractive option for financial growth.
Looking ahead, I see a brighter future. I plan to stay close to WUP Kenya to continue benefiting from their services. To anyone who has not joined WUP Kenya, I would say they are missing out. Anyone who wishes to grow financially should join WUP Kenya and follow the guidelines to reap the benefits.
In terms of additional support, I feel that the loan security procedures should be less strict, especially for established members like myself. Additionally, WUP Kenya should focus on training young people on the advantages of being a member.
Overall, my journey with WUP Kenya has been transformative, and I am grateful for the positive changes it has brought to my life.
